Highway authority: Ramps will ease - not cause - Tropicana traffic

Malay Mail, 29 June 2009

MHA says second ramp will have minimal impact on Sprint Highway

Highway Ramp

WORK on the second ramp along the Sprint Highway will start some time next month and it would help minimise traffic congestion at the Tropicana City Mall. It is expected to be ready by December.

"The first ramp, which was completed in March, and the construction of this second ramp, is the best solution proposed by consultants to ease traffic that would be generated by Tropicana City Mall," said an official from the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) recently.

He was responding to a letter written by a Malay Mail reader, Nandah Kumar Menon, on June 19 over the ramp towards NKVE. This ramp according to him will be joining Sprint Highway at the Damansara Jaya flyover, and his concern is that the proposed ramp will worsen the existing traffic congestion.

But the official dismissed concerns saying that the ramp will not have much impact on the Sprint Highway.

"In its study, the developer Dijaya Corporation Bhd found that between 300 and 900 cars will use the ramp during peak periods. Besides, the highway concessionaires Litrak and Sprint and we will be monitoring the situation," he said trying to allay fears over the traffic situation around the mall.

The developer will bear the total cost of the two ramps constructed at an estimated RM60 million. Malay Mail reported on June 18 that a proposed dedicated lane in front of the mall and the accelaration lane at its first exit, should ease traffic flow around the area.

Apparently, work on these projects should have begun this week but it has yet to be given a permit by the Petaling Jaya City Council.

"Given there is a delay, the developer will be sorting it out with the council next week (this week)," added the official.
